SmartTOUCH Xtreme

The SmartTOUCH Xtreme ISO 14443 reader with biometrics and PIN code provides a high security solution for access control applications using contactless smartcards. The SmartTOUCH Xtreme adds extra security to those points where you need it. The reader can be configured to read IE formatted cards programmed with Proxburn, Non-IE (third party) formatted cards and as serial number reader. For IE formatted cards the data on the card controls the output of the reader. For non-IE formatted cards and serial number reading the output of the reader is configured in the reader. The PIN output format and length are independent of card outputs. The patented ConfigCard offers configuration flexibility even when the reader is already installed.

SmartTOUCH Xtreme: Triple security

The SmartTOUCH Xtreme provides high security features through three level authentication. Three level authentication requires three forms of information in order to process the authentication request. The three factors are:

• Something what you have: your ISO 14443 card.

• Something what proves who you are: your fingerprint.

• Something what you know: your PIN code.

Reliable and secure

The SmartTOUCH Xtreme is perfect for integration in environments where conditions vary from wet to dry. The finger print sensor incorporates a new optical technology that is not affected by moisture or water on the surface of the sensor. The finger is illuminated by infrared light during scanning.

The light intensity is automatically adjusted according to the finger print characteristics (wet, dry, blurred etc) to optimize the quality of the finger print image.

Robust design for outdoor use:

The SmartTOUCH Xtreme is especially developed for outdoor use with a robust design for vandal resistance. The finger print sensor scanning window is a 14 mm thick crown glass, this crowned glass is extremely durable and scratch resistant. An optional heater is available for harsh environmental

conditions. The highly durable keypad is especially designed for heavy use environments. The SmartTOUCH Xtreme is standard equipped with a tamper switch to detect opening of the SmartTOUCH Xtreme housing.

Decentralized processing and verification

It was not by chance that Integrated Engineering has chosen to store the finger print template on the ISO 14443 secure smartcard itself. Many suppliers store the templates in a database within the finger print reader. In this case the amount of finger prints is limited to the amount of memory available in the reader. There are also fingerprint readers who store the fingerprint template in a central database. In the method chosen by Integrated Engineering the biometric data is kept outside a database. Thus the verification takes place in a totally independent system.

One unit for verification and enrollment

The SmartTOUCH Xtreme provides verification and enrollment functionality in one single unit. By means of an enrollment card the SmartTOUCH Xtreme is switched from access control mode in to enrollment mode to learn finger prints and store them on the secure ISO 14443 cards. With a special erase card the SmartTOUCH Xtreme is switched to erase mode to erase the finger print templates from the presented ISO 14443 cards.

Privacy guaranteed

The privacy of the cardholders is not invaded because the finger print is not published publicly. Upon a valid verification only a number, which has no relation to the finger print, is transported to the underlying system. For this reason the Person Data Protection law is not applicable to the SmartTOUCH Xtreme of Integrated Engineering.
